Advantages of Autoclavable Tubing for Oral Surgery Systems
February 21, 2022
For performing oral surgery, sterile irrigation is a requirement of any dental surgical system. While many oral surgical systems utilize disposable surgical irrigation tubing, American-made Aseptico® 6000 Series and Aseptico® 7000 Series surgical implant motors use autoclavable tubing by design. This important distinction saves the operator money and reduces medical waste.
Autoclavable irrigation tubing is ten times more economical than single-use tubing
Aseptico® autoclavable surgical irrigation tubing is specifically designed to fit Aseptico® 6000 and 7000 Series surgical and implant motors. The Aseptico® autoclavable surgical irrigation tubing set (AE-23) uses high-temperature silicone tubing. All parts of it, including the bag spike, connectors and clips, are fully autoclavable. One set of autoclavable irrigation tubing is included with Aseptico® 6000 and 7000 Series motors so you can get started treating your implant and oral surgery patients right away.
Aseptico® autoclavable surgical irrigation tubing set (AE-23) is ten times more economical than single-use disposable tubing.
Autoclavable oral surgery tubing lasts approximately one hundred sterilization cycles
You can expect one Aseptico® autoclavable surgical irrigation tubing set (AE-23) to last about one hundred sterilization cycles before it needs to be replaced. There is a small section of tubing that goes inside the blue pump door that will wear out faster. We include ten extra pieces of this pump tubing section with each Aseptico® surgical and implant motor system. Spare sets of ten pump tubing sections are also available for purchase; part number is AE-23-PUMP.
Instead of spending almost ten dollars per use on disposable irrigation tubing that is required of other oral surgery systems, Aseptico’s AE-23 autoclavable irrigation tubing lowers the cost per use to less than ten cents! Over the lifetime of your oral surgery system, it adds up to thousands of dollars in lower cost of ownership and less medical waste.
Tips for cleaning and autoclaving surgical tubing
Before sterilizing via autoclave, we recommend running clean water through the lines for about thirty seconds to flush out any saline or stagnant water. If you don’t flush out the saline, eventually salt crystals will form and clog the tubing over time. Then you can autoclave the entire tubing set in a pouch at 132 degrees Celsius for at least 10 minutes. Always visually inspect the tubing before using; over time, the tubing will discolor and eventually start getting holes in it, and that’s when you want to take it out of service.
The use of autoclavable surgical tubing versus single-use disposal tubing for oral surgery systems offers distinct advantages including less medical waste and savings in the thousands of dollars over the life of the oral surgery system. Instead of spending almost ten dollars per use on disposable irrigation tubing, Aseptico’s AE-23 autoclavable irrigation tubing lowers the cost per use to less than ten cents!
